Scapular
Thin, knee/shin length, open-sided outer garment. Scapulars are a Catholic monastic/devotional garment. They are often mistakenly called tabards in fantasy sources, but were not historically worn by knights. As a religious garment, they would be appropriate for paladins.
Surcoat
Wide, knee/shin length, close-sided outer garment, with a central split below the waist for unrestricted movement. For men-at-arms they were emblazoned, front and back, with a coat of arms (their lord’s, or their own if they had one).

emblazoned on the front and back with a coat of arms (livery),

Tabard
Wide, wait/thigh length, semi-open-sided outer garment, may have short open sleeves. For men-at-arms they were emblazoned, front and back, with a coat of arms (their lord’s, or their own if they had one).
